Can't We Make Better Choices?

The message Food Inc is trying to give is that consumers need to get more involved with what they eat. Consumers also need to read the ingredients and nutrition facts to see what they're eating and if it's healthy. If people looked at the ingredient and nutrition fact would that persuade them to stop eating that food?

I wonder if the producers care how they make food for us and if they eat the same food they produce, or eat organic food? If anything, producers can be to blame for a sick consumer. Don't get me wrong the government can be blamed too, because they give subsidies to the industry and if there weren't subsidy, food would be much healthier.

Consumers really have to get more details about what they eat. Just because producers made that food doesn't mean we have to eat it, we have th
at choice. That's like saying they make guns so lets get one and shoot someone.

My conclusion is we all have the choice to choose to see what we eat and we should take advantage of that.

Today in life though, I still feel some tension between blacks and whites. This isn't the first time segregation and having different rights as a black person and white person has been going on; this has been happening since 1896. Since that time we had people like Martin Luther King fighting for us "colored" people's rights because white people had the ability to do basically whatever they chose to.

-1865:End of Civil War, The North won and slavery ended
-1865 to 1877: Reconstruction, During this period the North and the South tried to come back together. The North made laws that the South thought was unfair:
-1865:13th Amendment- This Amendment was to abolish slavery. the state protects
-1866:14th Amendment- This Amendment is stating no state can take away any right that
-1869:15th Amendment- This Amendment African Americans got the chance to vote, Voice their opinion.
-1896:Plessy vs.Fergauson- This court case started the law "separate but equal". This led to the Jim Crow law



All of these events took place to try and get rid of all the violence and hatred between whites and blacks. Some people wanted to be segregated but it was up to the rest that didn't want to fight and they fought hard and because of that today we get to hang out with friends of all colors, shapes and sizes.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I am a citizen of the Lower East Side and I feel that the statistics that ONLY 7.9% of African Americans Students being enrolled in Advanced Placement Courses makes me feel upset. That makes me second guess my surroundings of "colored" people because I wonder do they care? How do they feel? And why do some of them put themselves in a bad position than others?


I, Dynasia Smith feels disturbed because i think that there is some type of racism going on in that statement. Some people just have it hard and can't be as civilized as others and focus in school. I think the statements said in 50 Years Later : Little Rock Central such as "White people have better lives and they don't come from a harsh background as us 'Colored' people" was true but i also agree that that's no excuse to act up in school.


I also feel like teachers should try and push us more because its sad that ONLY about 50% of African Americans graduate. We have the ability to do better we just need that support. This is very sad to hear because i feel like they are representing me and making me look bad , and we are we'll known as being "ignorant" and i think in this case people are proving that. I would want to prove people wrong but it seems different for other black citizens .


You know what though? This doesn't surprise me because it seems that all our life's so many black people have been failures and are going to continue to be because its like a never ending cycle (not a good thing). I feel white people are born to be smart and maybe thought it was better that we had to earn the title of being smart. Does it have to do with the economic system? If we had more money would you think we would be willing to learn or would our situation still be bad?
